The Agency for National Security is an independent state administration body, established with the aim to protect the national security of the country, that is to say to protect the independence, sovereignty, constituional order, fundamental human and civil freedoms and rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as other matters of interest to the national security of the state.
The Agency performs it's duties in accordance the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia, the laws and international agreements ratified in line with the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia.
In performing it's mandated duties, The Agency acts indepedently and without any influence by the political parties.
Control bodies:
- The public prosecutor of the Republic of North Macedonia
- The Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of North Macedonia who issued the order.
Oversight bodies:
- The Parlament – directly and through competent working bodies
- The Ombudsman of the Republic of North Macedonia
- Personal Data Protection Agency
- Directorate for Security of Classified Information
- State Audit Office
- The Civilian Oversight Board in accordance with the Law on Interception of Communications
- Other bodies in accordance with law
