As part of the regular agenda, today the Director of the National Security Agency, Bojan Hristovski, attended the second session of the Security Council in the office of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, at which a comprehensive discussion was opened on current security challenges, climate risks and the European integration process.
The session, which lasted more than two and a half hours, was spent in a dynamic exchange of information and views on security dilemmas in the world and their impact on the region and the country. Despite geopolitical tensions, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia, the participants agreed that regional security, as well as the security situation in the country, remain stable and under control.
Serious attention was paid to the increased number of fires in the country and the region.
President Siljanovska-Davkova expressed concern that some of the fires, according to initial indications, may have been deliberately caused. The government reported on a prevention system that includes the use of cameras and drones, as well as plans to amend the legal framework for crisis management. A new project for a modern integrated information system for early warning of weather disasters was also presented, which will use artificial intelligence and data obtained with the support of expert teams from FINKI.
With regard to the European agenda, the members of the Council agreed that reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law, remain crucial for progress towards the EU. It was emphasized that the effective implementation of laws and compliance with the opinions of the Venice Commission and GRECO are of utmost importance. The need for greater activity of the National Council for European Integration and the Committee on European Affairs in the Parliament was also pointed out, in order to ensure timely reaction and constructive dialogue on the European agenda.
The session ended with conclusions and recommendations on all three items on the agenda, emphasizing that the Security Council will continue to regularly monitor and propose measures in order to protect the security, stability and progress of the country.
