The Agency for National Security in coordination with other competent institutions, is continuously undertaking activities to detect and disrupt a propaganda network in the country that has a destructive and malicious agenda aimed at influencing public discourse in the interest of foreign entities

As part of joint, coordinated activities of the Agency for National Security, the Ministry of Interior and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, investigative activities were undertaken on 18 September 2026, against a Macedonian national connected to foreign actors who are creators of a propaganda apparatus that include a network of web portals integrated into the Macedonian media space as well.

Due to reasonable suspicion that he is a perpetrator of the criminal offenses “Causing National, Racial, and Religious hatred, Discord and Intolerance”, under the Article 319 of the Criminal Code, “Disclosure of an Official Secret”, under the Article 360 of the Criminal Code and “Dissemination of Racist and Xenophobic Material through a Computer System”, under Article 394-g of the Criminal Code, a search of his home was conducted during which items were found and seized. The items are currently subject of further forensic examination.

The actual operators of this propaganda network, which serves Russian interest, are hiding behind cloned pseudo-news sites registered with Macedonian internet domains. These pseudo-portals are used to spread fake news and disinformation and to re-shape narratives regarding current events, thereby undermining trust in institutions and inciting ethnic and national hatred and intolerance.

The mentioned activities are a continuation of previously disrupted pro-Russian hybrid activities carried out by a Macedonian national linked to these propaganda networks, against whom a criminal complaint was filed for the criminal offense “Dissemination of Racist and Xenophobic Material through a Computer System”, under Article 394-g of the Criminal Code.

Within the scope of its mandate, the Agency will continue to undertake measures and activities to detect and disrupt subversive and propaganda activities carried out through a network of web portals linked to regional pro-Russian political structures, which directly undermine the strategic and Euro-integration processes of the country
