Following prior information provided by the Agency for National Security, which indicated subversive and propaganda activities in the country by domestic and foreign non-state actors, The Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of the Interior/BJA, in a synchronised manner, undertook organised measures and activities for the criminal prosecution of individuals and the seizure of propaganda materials intended to incite ethnic and national intolerance, discord and hatred among citizens.
The individuals implicated in the criminal complaint, through the printing and distribution of propaganda material, had planned to incite hatred towards the Macedonian state and identity and to provoke tensions, and via the social network Facebook, on the 'Historical Data for Macedonia' page, they shared content that incites national and ethnic discrimination.
The aforementioned activities were instigated in coordination with and under the direction of a Bulgarian national, who for an extended period has been conducting propaganda activities on social media and via a bot network on news portals with the aim of inciting hatred, intolerance and violence between Macedonian and Bulgarian citizens in both countries, from the position of a non-state proxy actor in the function of hybrid subversion of the strategic Euro-integration processes of Macedonia and endangering European security.
The Agency, in cooperation and coordination with other competent authorities, will continue to take measures and activities aimed at detecting and preventing similar actions that discredit and offend the feelings of citizens, as well as threaten national and regional security.
