The National Security Agency informs the public that it is beginning to implement polygraph testing.
Polygraph testing will be applied as a mandatory step in the process of selecting persons for employment, in procedures for verifying the professional integrity of employees, when conducting security checks for which the Agency is competent, as well as in all other cases in accordance with the Law on the National Security Agency.
The legal obligation to apply polygraph testing was foreseen with the establishment of the Agency in 2019, but due to its failure to implement it in the previous five years, negative reactions and criticism from the professional public were not absent.
The Director of the National Security Agency promised in public statements that a period of fulfillment of the unimplemented legal obligation is certainly coming, with the aim of achieving the highest standards of integrity, trust and professionalism in work.
By introducing polygraph testing in the Agency, the promise made is simultaneously fulfilled and the foreseen legal obligation is fully fulfilled.
The National Security Agency handles information of the highest level of confidentiality. The application of the polygraph is an assessment method that will enable the selection of personnel who meet the highest ethical and professional criteria for work, verify the security suitability of employees, and minimize the risks of possible compromising activities that would endanger security interests.
By implementing polygraph testing, we are taking a significant step towards building trust, improving security practices and standards, and creating an environment in which integrity and professionalism will be the basic principles of the National Security Agency's operations.
